Topic: NewsPad + Forum = good member manager? Posted: 21 April 2010 at 4:39pm |

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish:
I want to use the Forum and NewsPad to communicate with group members, but what I'm really trying to do feels like "membership software" and I'm wondering how to do it while incorporating WebWiz products...
-members might be in various groups simultaneously (can Forums do that??). i.e. I might be a member of the group "past attendee" and also "fund raising committee." These groups might need different email/news blasts at different times.
-members should be able to edit contact info on their own records and be able to opt-in or out of certain types of communications (more groups?)
-member contact info should be somewhat customizable with address and phone number fields to make it act more like a contact database for those with proper privileges (i guess Admin) to see all the info and even export it for paper mailings, etc.
By turning off NewsPad web front end, I can get some of this from Forum integration, but groups seem mutually exclusive and ability to manage contact info isn't there. Am I missing something? Can anyone think of a 3rd party app/script that would play nice?

NewsPad has these features that you require, but the forum does not.
However, you can still use NewsPad and have people signup directly to that and select the mailing categories they want to be in. Then when you go to send the eNewsletter you can select the NewsPad subscriber categories and also if you want send it to people who have subscribed within the forum to receive newsletters.

Interesting.... kind of backwards from the advertised Forum integration if I hear you right, but pleased to hear it could work!
I will give it a test from that direction and report back with subsequent questions. Thanks!

OK, I don't see where Admin can actually modify a member's group (newsletter) selections. For that matter, can there be newsletters(groups) that are hidden or locked from the user so that certain things can be managed for them by Admin?
This is so close!

Members would select themselves which newsletter groups they wish to subscribe to. The admin can not change this for them as this is illegal in many countries under anti-spam laws where the subscriber needs to opt-in themselves to lists rather than it being decided for them.

Of course you're right... I wasn't even thinking of that! This is a "tight-knit" group where everyone knows each-other and wants the communication, but I get the problem.
So, one more question - and I realize I might need to post this over in Forum support: Are "groups" (non-ladder I guess) mutually exclusive in the Forum? If a member could be a member of more than one group, I could create forum sections with relevant group access and post notices in there that mail out to all members of said group - I would assume with or without NewsPad (although NewsPad would make it much nicer!)?

You can use NewsPad to send eNewsletters to specific Web Wiz Forums groups, but forum members can only be a member of one group.
