I would like to add a couple of quick-launch buttons of my own, so the users can get easy access to some other websites which is related to my own.
Nothing fancy, just a button image with a hyperlink to open the other page.
And I would like to have them placed at the top of the forum, to the right side of the forum logo.

Does this require lots of changes to the code ?
And which file do I need to edit to do this ?

It would depend on how your forum is laid up, but the includes/header.asp file is the one that you would probably be best to edit
