When using the URL rewrite option, does the v. 10, compared to v9.x, minimize the amount of 301 redirects.?

The beta-testforum doesn´t seem like it, but in this supportforum the URL´s are rewritten from the beginning on forum frontpage and topic pages.

I know it can be done by moding the code, but is it a built in feature in v. 10? Smile

It is built in to version 10 beta 2 for many of the main links that would be found by search engines, although links between pages still use the 301 redirect due to the large number of additional parts that can be within the URL due to changing column orders.

Although 301 redirects should not hurt SEO and is what search engines recommend to use for redirecting. I've not read anything yet that 301 redirects would affect SEO and I usually spend 2 to 4 hours a week reading up on the latest SEO trends on SEO sites like SEOMOZ and Search Engine Land, but not come across anything yet that 301 redirects are bad for SEO.

Web Wiz Forums also uses canonical meta tags to tell the search engine the page that it should index, however these do not always seem to be taken any notice of particularly by Google who were the ones to champion the use of canonical meta tags, but they usually get there in the end.
