Hi,
I have a problem with setting up email verification. I am using CDOSYS and am using my hosting company's web relay setting for the SMTP mail server. Now, when someone registers with an email address that is not hosted on my server, the email verification fails (I get the following Mail Delivery Subsystem email sent to my forum admin address), but no error shows to the user... he just gets redirected to the 'click on the link in the email to activate' page, but of course the email never arrives.
 
 The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
mailto:user@externaldomain.com - user@externaldomain.com
   (reason: 550-Verification failed for < mailto:forumadmin@mydomain.com - forumadmin@mydomain.com>)
 
If I register with an email address who's domain is on my host, the verification email is sent OK.
My host insists that I am using the correct settings for the SMTP server for web relay, so I am at a loss why this is happening. Any ideas?

The error is thrown by the email component as authentication to your mail server is failing.

This means that the settings you have in the email settings page in your admin area not correct for your hosts mail server settings.

The only people who can give you the correct settings are your web host as only they know how they have configured their servers for authentication.

Some common settings are that the forum email address set on the email setting page needs to be the same account as you authenticate with the mail server with. However, only your web host can tell you this information.
