SQL server upgrade from 2000 to 2008

I have a licensed version 8.05 and have had it sitting happily on a SQL 2000 box for a number of years, but due to new hosting requirements, we want to move the sql to a SQL 2008 R2 box. I've migrated the data across, but notice that I can no longer log into the forum to "configure" as my administrator account password isn't recognized.


Do I need to use the SQL upgrade tool? I don't wish to upgrade the forum, just the SQL version the data is stored in.

 

We are a charity and don't have easy access to funds for a new license hence why we're still using version 8.05.

 

Any help you can offer greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you may have used the Import/Export Tools in SQL Server Studio Manager to migrate the data. This does not work as much of the database schema is dropped.

What you need to do is create a backup of your SQL Server 2000 Database (.bak file). You then move the backup file to your new database server where you restore the database in SQL Server Studio Manager.

By doing it this way you keep all the database schema as well as the data.
