I am having the same error message when trying to add a new topic.

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occurred while writing to the database.
Please contact the Forum Administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_save_new_topic_data
File Name:- new_post.asp
Forum Version:- 10.12
The forum has been idle for some time so this may not be a new error. It was upgraded from 9.x quite recently.
It is on the same database server as before - SQL 2008 R2 (Standard or Enterprise).
Also happens when replying to a thread:

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occurred while writing to the database.
Please contact the Forum Administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_save_new_post_data
File Name:- new_post.asp
Forum Version:- 10.12
Any clues?

Try enabling 'Detailed Error Reporting' from the 'Web Wiz Forums General Settings' page in the admin area.

This should then give a more detailed error message which will hopefully tell us what the issue is.

Have you moved the SQL Server Database or migrated the data by any chance?

Not as far as I know, no.  The forum has been idle for a couple of years.

I read the note that the databases have to be backed-up and then restored.

If the schema is somehow corrupt I can start again with an empty database - unless there is an easy fix for this?

Judging by the error messages I would say that the database has lost the default values, this usually happens when someone uses the SQL Server migration tools to move or replicate the database, as these reconstruct the table and data and not the primary keys, foreign keys and default values.
