I just updated from version 6 point something to version 7. Everything seems to work fine, except the new topic and new poll and post reply functions. For the new topic, it says that there is an errorin line 700-something of post_message.asp and says something about reformatting indices and tables. For the new poll, it's line 300-something and says that somethnig is out of range.

Both the new topic and poll appears in the forum list of topics and polls, but when you click on them it says that there are no posts corresponding to it, and it's quite wierd.

as far as i can tell, it's an error in an individual file. I've tried re-downloading and re-uploading the file but it doesn't change anything.

[edit] ok the error thing for the new topic is:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e21'

The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again.

/realm2/forum/post_message.asp, line 749

and for polls it is:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0009'

Subscript out of range: 'UBound'

/realm2/forum/post_message.asp, line 392

It could be a corrupted file, try reuploading the files again.

I had that problem the first couple of times I migrated a forum to v7.x. Here is what I've found to be a sure-fire way to migrate on about 6 boards now:

  • Make sure you download the migration tool
  • Compact/Repair the v6.x database prior to migration
  • Compact/Repair the empty v7.x database prior to migration
  • Use the migration tool following the instructions included
  • Compact/Repair the new v7.x database after migration
  • Enjoy the new forum!

That has worked on an Access database as large as 10,000 posts. If you have any more problems email me and I'll try to help you out.

The easy way is open it up in Access. Then click Tools...Database Utilities...Compact and Repair.

There are some ASP scripts that will do it on the fly as well.

excellent, thanks alot, it works now, although I did something to the database that made it lose the posts and topics but that doesn't matter, it needed to be wiped anyways.

Thanks!
