The icon shows that there are unread posts in a forum.  I readthe items it says are unread then exit the forum.  When I return it still lists them as unread.  At some point flipping around in the messages, they become read.

However the main forum icon still lists unread items..(even though there are no unread items in the forum)

Overall it's acting very strange.  Anything know issues or fixes?  Thanks,

Sean

OK, I've noticed that the main forum icon never changes unless I click on "mark all posts read".  From an old topic I read this seems to be normal behaviour.

Is there a mod that puts this back to what I'd consider "normal" behaviour.  e.g. If you are on a page and you're read everyhing, everything will be marked as read (and you don't have to leave and come back to have it marked as such?)

If I understand correctly, the forum doesn't keep track of each individual message that you've read... The "new posts" icons on the forum main page will show you all forums with new posts since you last visited. So, the icons will not change during your current visit. When you click on "mark all posts as read", you are simply changing the "last visit" time to the current time, as if your "last visit" were a few seconds ago.

I don't know of a way to do what you are asking, which is to track, post by post, which posts you have viewed and display the appropriate icon. To do so would require a database field to track whether or not you have read a particular post; the forum currently does not do that (as far as I know).

OK, I guess I'm just used to other forums (Phbb, Zemomain, VB  etc..) that all do it the other way.  Would be nice to be consistent..

Thanks.

Hello all,

I'm using version 7.7 and am still having some problems with these icons.
A search through this forum only came up with this thread, so I decided to post my questions here....
Sometimes, the following situation occurs:
On the main page, several forums have the "new posts" icon in front of them. However, when you open up that forum, none of the topics have that icon, although they should have, because some posts really are new.
It also occurs the other way around, the new posts icon is displayed, even after you just read all posts in that forum. As stated in a post before mine, logging out and back in solves that, but I don't think that's how it should be.

So:
It would be really nice if something was done about these icons, especially when they show 'new posts' on the main page, and when you click on that forum, none of the posts have the 'new posts' icon, when in fact, there ARE new posts.
Perhaps something to work on in 7.8?
But other than this, I'd like to complement all developers on a job very well done, and I really appreciate you putting all you spare time in this project, and not making that much profit of it!
