Hi all, im new to this site, but it seems pretty cool upto now.....

First thing is i am not a programmer and i am using a web editor to create my pages.....Ok i'll explain my problem - I want to use asp pages on my website, now i understand that only Microsoft hosting uses asp pages, this is fine for me. But I have installed mysql on my pc and i have created a database of my records (good old vinyl) that i enter new records into via an odbc link in MS Access. So i have 2 databases really, I can update via either one. I want to display the information in these DB's dynamically on my website. Now do i need MySQL? or can i just use Access, as i have seen some hosting that allows Access DB's and dsn links to the DB. As MySQL DB's cost extra, I would like to keep as cheap as possible really. Any info on this problem would be much appreciated as I am getting nowhere in finding out what i want and really hope you guys can help. As I say i am not a programmer so laymans terms please!!

thanks in advance

mark

I would use Access as the mySQL database driver isn't very good on windows web servers when using ASP.

by using access can i still see changes live on site? and if so how would i create a sort of preview area just for me, so i can update the live site when it suits me, rather than each record being sent as it is created?

this is the text from the hosting company i am thnking of using, does this mean i can do what i have said i want to do?

Access Database Supported
1&1 offers you the latest method of connecting to an Access database. Many Windows based ISP's still use the DSN (Data Source Name) set-up feature via their control panel interfaces. 1&1 offers a non-DSN route to Access. The main advantages of this connection are:

  • The number of databases you can access is no longer restricted.
  • Because there is no lengthy set up procedure, there is no time delay.

Beside ADO and ODBC we support the OLE DB data access provider. OLE DB provides a flexible and efficient database architecture that offers efficient access to Microsoft data stores.

hope this all makes sense....

I registered a domain with one and one and I am not very impressed with them, I havent seen there hosting but for domains you can't configure name servers and you can't transfer your domain. They only let you have frames to redirect to your site!
