 Topic: recent topics feature

hi,
i'm running web wiz forums with an access database and i'm just wondering what are the performance implications of enabling the feature to show the last most recent topics? it says not to do it but i and some of the forum users really miss that feature.

Emmet, I used an access version of the forums for nearly a year with this enabled without any crashes what soever.
There are more issues than just the daatabase to be considered, your hosting, page views, traffic,maintenance,etc. all have a bearing on the speed of the forum.
To give you a rough idea, I had 600+ members who posted around 80,000+ posts, with approximately 12 people online constantly, the database was around 80mb before I changed over to SQL. In the whole time we had that version we didn't crash once.

actually, i can't find where to turn it on now! i thought maybe if i enabled "active user list" in the forum configuration it would come on, but that didn't work. where can i enable it? thanks again. emmett

Click into the admin section of your site, go to Forum Configuration and its about half way down the page!

thanks. i've enabled that but it only seems to add functionality allowing users see who is online now, rather than allow them to view which 5/6 topics were last updated...
