Dear All:

I need some guidance on the upload features built-in to Web Wiz. First I need to tell you that I am running on MS 2003 servers. I checked with the web administrator and asked them which application they supported and they told me ASPUpload.

I then selected that from the dropdown list box. I created a folder called uploads then placed three folders inside of that folder called 'files', 'images' and 'avatras'. I then entered the full path for each in their respective text box.

I tried to upload an avatar image to the upload folder I specified and received a 500 error.

So what am I not doing or for that matter doing wrong.

The site is still closed to the public and is not accessible from the main web site. 24-hours ago I invited a my newsletter subscribers to test it out. One of my subscribers, who happens to be a 10-year beta tester for MS received the same message and also alerted me to the problem.

You can access the site with this URL:

Any help would be warmly received.

Turn off friendly HTTP error messages in IE so you can get what is corsing the error.

But if the component is installed my guess is that you have not set write permisisons on the directories.

I turned off http as you suggested and received the following message:

=======================================

Server.MapPath() error 'ASP 0173 : 80004005'

Invalid Path Character

/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 92

An invalid character was specified in the Path parameter for the MapPath method.

========================================

Line 92 is as follows:

.SaveVirtual strFileUploadPath

========================================

Please advise what I must do to corrwect this issue. Also, I am running on Windows 2003 running IIS v6.0 When I have tried to set file permissions they just revert to their original state.

Thank you for the help and look forward to hearing from you soon.

I have found that Win2003 is much more rigid with allowing certain things to function (or not).  You might be better off testing this same thing to see if it works on Win2000.  That way you will know if it is actually a problem with the ASP, or some restriciton in Win2003.

Sorry. I have no way of doing that. I am not a developer type and the platform from my host is set by him and not me. Any other suggestions?

You have entered the wrong characters in the upload path in the admin area.

You have / when it should have \ for the path to the uploads folder or vise versa.

Let me know which one wprks.

The example in the admin pages shows this: ../images/upload

I entered the complete path as such:

http://mysite.xxx/forum/uploads/avatars/ I also have the same thing for  /uploads/files as well as same thing for  /uploads/images

I followed the example given but added the complete path is that wrong?

Discovered the problem.  Apparently the text field is not long enough for my complete path and some of the characteres were truncated without my knowing. I went to uploads/avatars, files, images and it works just fine.

Thanks for the help.
