    Posted: 19 November 2003 at 2:14am

Hi all, i'm working on a website for work and I would like to implement borgs "printable version" like he has on the forum posts pages.

Does anyone know how I would do this? Basically what I need is to be able to have a link on a page, and when you click it, an new window opens with just the text off the page etc. so that you can print it easily.

Thanks in advance

ps

I have no ASP knowledge at all really

The printable version is only use on the posts page and is basically a second copy of the page with the formatting changed and the graphics removed.

Ah, so there's no fancy asp to remove the graphics for you then?

Another way to approach the printable page is to just define the printable elements with CSS, so that when the user prints the graphic filled page, the printer is sent a more basic page.

Yes, I've read about that somewhere. The way I did it was to add some javascript in the head of the pages and wrap the text I want to print in a <div id="printReady"> tag.

The Javascript then looks for that and sends it to the printer when you click on the print page link.

Easy when you know how eh!!

You could also use the XML object and then strip the pages HTML
