    Posted: 02 March 2006 at 4:36am
hi boRg,

I have just installed the new WWF beta 2, and it works smoothly for me, except the following
Quote RSS XLST online viewer, although works, is not yet complete
RSS is not working for me under IE 6, but shows something under FireFox 1.5
Under IE6, it shows the below error message
Quote
The XML page cannot be displayed

Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

The stylesheet does not contain a document element. The stylesheet may be empty, or it may not be a well-formed XML documen...

I know that feature is under development, so just want to let you know.

Btw, last time with beta 1 of the WWF, I noticed the slowness with some  pages and have reported before here http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=17839
but it's not happened to me now. Maybe something has been changed and fixed. Clap

I also want to ask about viewing statistic in the WWG forum homepage, I don't see it in my beta 2 installation and can't find any option to turn it on. Is it available on WWF beta 2

boRg, you did a good job, keep it up. WWF is always my favorite forum software.

I'm using SQL version of WWF 8 beta 2

Best regards,

conxion

The RSS XLST was done in a rush the day before the release of beta 2, I've not got to the XLST chapter in the XML book I'm reading at the moment, so will have a complete re-write as soon as I finsh that chapter.

The stats at the bottom of the homepage are just layed out better, the 'Today's Birthdays' is set to only display when there are birthdays on that day.

It maybe best to change this to display  'no birthdays today' when there are no birthdays. What do others think Question

The RSS XML Feed found on the Forum Index page is an RSS Feed of the last 10 posts and can use an RSS News Reader like www.FeedDemon.com to get a News Feed to your desktop of the last 10 posts in Web Wiz Forums.

If you click an RSS Feed link in many browsers you get aload of garbled XML which make no sense to anyone. To prevent this you can use an XLST Style Sheet to style the RSS XML Feed so that it is also viewable in web browsers.

Many browsers like IE7 and Firefox also support live books marks from RSS Feeds, and there is also a plugin for Outlook to view RSS News Feeds in that as well.

RSS is starting to take off quite allot, and is something that is certainly becoming quite big and I plan on using it quite extensively within Web Wiz Forums as it will be a really useful tool for most web sites running forums.

I know different users want different things lol.
My personal opinion is that i prefer that if there is nothing to show, i like it when nothing is shown. So instead of 'There are no birthdays today' just not showing any birthday text at all. Helps with a nice clean layout.

I could have worded this post so much better please forgive me, was a heavy night last night

Handyman man?

boRg, how about the thing I asked: forum viewing status, for example:
Quote
Web Wiz Forums Support (2 Viewing)
Support forum for Web Wiz Forums software application.
About Today's Birthdays section, I have just noticed that today it breaks the forum layout on 1024x768 screen because there's too many members have birthdays today but the line hasn't been word wrapped.

The (2 viewing) only appears if there are people actually in the forum and is part of the active users system, so make sure active users are enabled.

Someone else just pointed out the wrapping issue, and looks like I left in a 'nowrap' tag on the line which I have now hopefully fixed.
