Recently, I found something while web surfing and I wanted to share it with others.

We're all aware there is a lack of Web Serving Software with ASP support. The only way consumers could have an ASP compatible web server at home was to install the IIS4 Personal Web Server on Windows 98 SE, IIS5 on Windows 2000 Professional or IIS6 with XP Professional. Even then, you are limitted to only 5 user connections at one time.

Because of this, the only way to have an ASP compatible web server with no limit on user connections is to have either a legitimate Disc of Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Adv. Server, or a Sun Java ASP Server for several hundred dollars -- or at least a piroted copy. Not any more...

Just for the heck of it, I was surfing around and did a google search on "web server" +asp +software. Other than the ChiliSoft product which I think suck...there is another possible, affordable and easy solution for having an ASP compatible web server at home: http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/html/quick__n_easy_web_server.html

The full professional version costs only $19.99 and it is compatible with XP Home, although I am not sure about compatibility with other Windows versions.

I am not sure if someone else mentioned this before, so forgive me for repeating if it was.

Nope. Pablo Software also has the Quick N Easy Baby Web server. There's a demo for it, but it is limited to only 5 user connections.

Here's something to consider. If this thing works on a Windows 98 SE box, can you imagine the minimal resources this thing would need..compared to a W2k or XP box?

Hmm....I have a Windows 98 SE box here -256 MB Ram/ 400 Mhz....maybe I should try it out....

Well, I tried it on my Windows 98 SE box -256 MB Ram/ 400 Mhz CPU.

Very simple compared to IIS on Windows 2000 server.

Basically, its a zip file with a few readme files and a standalone executable. Double-click on the executable --specify port --specify pathway of folder with web pages --start server.

I tried it with webwiz News....works fine with no problems. ASP 3.0, clientside java scripting compatible.

For those of you who might want to do more, it's worth checking out.
