Hello all. Here's my problem. I have been using Web Wiz Forums on a site of mine for about 2 years, problem free. Just a couple days ago, i started recieving and error message when attempting to view the forum that said:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Unspecified error

/forum/common.asp, line 261

I did a search, found very little, im a newb when it comes to Access and databases and stuff, so when what I tried didnt work, I re-installed a whole new forum, much to the dismay of my forums 100+ members who must now re-register. Well everything was working fine for a day, and I just tried to go on again and wouldn't you know it I got the same exact message again:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Unspecified error

/forum/common.asp, line 261

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this without ruining or bringing down my forum, registered members, and already active posts? If you could explain it in Layman terms too that would be awesome. Thanks a lot guys.

This error often means that your Access database has become corrupted.

You can often fix this by downloading the database, opening it in Access, and selecting; 'Compact and Repair Database' from the tools menu.

However, Access is a flat desktop file and not really up to the task of storing data for anything but the smallest web site applications, so can only handle small forums with a handful of members.

To prevent these types of errors you should look as using a Database Management System instead. Web Wiz Forums version 8 supports both MS SQL Server and mySQL which are both full DBMS's which don't suffer from these types of issues.
