freebsd based free nas software.. this is cool.. i installed it on VPC 2004 SP1 and created RAIDS and stuff.. very nice for a small org.. too bad it is still in beta.. wish people would contribute to such stuff...

I would guess that FreeNAS is just a customized FreeBSD cd that is just a NAS and comes with config tools etc.

The package they use for the Network Storage is probably freely available in the FreeBSD repository
