Topic: Cant Login Posted: 28 April 2003 at 7:11am |
I set the forum all up seems to work, but I can’t login from the forum as administrator or a user. If I login to the admin default.htm then return to the form I can post as the administrator. I’m unable to login from the front forum under login. If I password protect a forum I can’t get in it. Because of the consistency I would think I just missed something in the setup. Whatever help you can get would be greatly welcomed.

Ie does have issues with cookies if you do not connect directly to a site, this means that things like frames, URL redirection, URL masking, IP masking, etc. canb stop IE from correctly reading back in cookies.
Also make sure you have cookies enabled in your browser and your site is set as a trusted site.
Look up this topic on the forum by doing a search as there are lots of posts on this issue with IE not correctly setting cookies.

Well I have tried this on five computers running three deferent OS including win2000, winXP and linux 8. The five computers had four deferent browsers including IE 6, Avant, GNOME, and Opera 6.01. Like I had said if I login under the admin default.htm it will work just fine. Why is it that that works?

You must have something wrong somewhere, either in the way your site is setup so that cookies can not be set, or you have corrupted files in your forum.
Try deleting and reinstalling the forum, if that fails then it looks like the way your site runs is incompatible with the forum software. Try www.aspin.com for some forum software that maybe more compatible with your site.

I like this forum and I’m running my server out of my shop. I’m using abyss 1.1.4 for the server could this be the problem? I can change what I’m using I just set this up just to run this forum. I have another web server for my website and ftp. What software combo works best with this forum? I look at the other forum from www.aspin.com I just can’t find one I like as much as this. I just can’t find the error with the way it’s sitting. I also use a Dynamic DNS service could this be my problem?

The forum runs best on the windows plateform using microsfts IIS web server that comes with Win2k, XP pro, and Win Server 2003.
The dynamic DNS service probally is the problem that is preventing cookies from being set.

Just a question if the Dyn DNS is my problem if I used the ip to go to the forum should that work? Like “ http://204.12.###.###/forum “ get around the dyn dns service? If so I could make a cover page the uses a link like that to get to the forum. My server also goes though a router with nat enabled, and port forwarding to the inside ip of the server. The router is also set to block wan requests. Could this have anything to do with it?
