Hi,

I have made sure my hosting company has ASPUpload(anyway, one of the approved components that works with v7 for file and image uploading,) so it should work.  When I go to Admin page to configure, I say it's ok for all users to post images, provide a directory to upload to, etc.  The directory has write permissions 'cause it is used to upload images from a different page.  two questions:  Am I missing something?

A bigger question:  I have seen forums where users post the photo right into their post on the forum.  Is this the functionality in v7 or is it the ability to upload a file from PC to server (but not have it displayed in the post)?

If it is working correctly, will I see a [browse] button to navigate the PC directory to find the file to upload?  All I see now is the same http://--- that was in v6.x to post a link to a file on another webspace.

Sorry for the long post.  Thanks in advance for your terriffic support.

Important - Please Read First!

To be able to use file and image upload in your forums, you must have an upload component installed on the web server, if you are unsure about this check with your web hosts, if they have any of the upload components mentioned below installed.

If you run the web server yourself then you could download and install one of the following supported components.

You will also need to make sure that the upload folder has write permissions and is inside the root of your website.

  • Persits AspUpload 2.x or above
    Component available form www.aspupload.com
  • Dundas Upload 2.0
    Free component available from www.dundas.com
  • SoftArtisans FileUp 3.2 or above (SA FileUp)
    Component available form www.softartisans.com
  • aspSmartUpload
    Free component available from http://www.aspsmart.com
  • AspSimpleUpload
Free component available from http://www.asphelp.com - The ASP File System Object is also required when using this component, check with your host that they have not disabled it.

I don't know if you have check about this feature in your admin tools.  In my forum, I see this in the text editor:

Cut Copy Paste Bold Italic Underline Left Justify Centre Justify Right Justify Unordered List Outdent Indent Add Hyperlink Image Upload File Upload

In my case i can't use the last two icons, there are dissable, guess i didn't download the right program or mod, but i don't think I will anyways, in my case with the internet graphics is more than enought in order to bring pictures to the forum, and this icon works like charm .  Sorry if a don't help, but i'm not an expert, only a newbie. Cheers.

You need to give users permisison to upload images and files in posts, through either the group permissions or when you setup teh forum, or both.

You then get a buuton with an arrow pointing up, this is the upload button, by clicking this another windows opens with a browse button, find the image on your hard drive, click to have it uploaded and it is then added to your post.

My hosting company assures me they have ASPSmartUpload component on the server, so it must be something I haven't configured correctly.  I don't see the last 2 icons -- with the up arrows -- on my forum.

Thanks for the help.  Back to the admin page.....

Additional info to help you help meSmile and others (surely it's not just me!)

When I go to Forum User Group Permissions for [forum name], It says Generic Forum Permissions for [forum name] Upload Image is OFF!
I cannot find where to change this value.

User Group permissions for each user group has been set to Upload Images YES.

Image and file Configuration page setings:
Upload component: ASPSmartUpload
Image types: jpg;bmp;jpeg;gif;png
Max image file size 10KB
Image Upload folder path: ../Pix/2-horses-other (it is write enabled)

Please advise where I change Generic Forum permissions and also, can you tell me why I'm not seeing the last 2 (upload) icons.  I do have v7.01.

Thanks.

Gary www.sheykhobeyd.info (go poke around if that will help).

The generic forum permisions are stup when you create a forum.

to change them later go to the forum adminstration in the admin area, click on the forum you want to change the permisions on and you get a page where you can change forum permisions, change the forum name, description, etc.

Also looking at your forum I go the image upload button, I guess you just haven't set it up for the admin user group so you can not see it yourself as guests can definetly see the upload image button.

I even manged to upload an image to test to see if it works.

boRg,

We're getting there... When I try to chagne Forum Details, I don't see a place for changing permisions to upload, and I get this error when I Submit Form Details:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'CInt'  /forum/admin/forum_details.asp, line 111

Also, I can't find a Administrator user group to edit.  Sorry I'm needing all this hand-holding.
