I have my whole website on a local PC and normally publish to the ISP. I have the version 7.9 Forum (Access version) integrated with the website in a separate folder called "Forum". I am confused about upgrading locally and then using the publish feature to move the results to the ISP. Can someone give me a clue as to how to go about this?

I have very little in the current database and wouldn't mind wiping out the old version completely and just move version 8 into place. Would that be the less difficult? If I take this approach how do I communicate the license which I no longer have a copy of. Can I find that in one of the files locally?

There is a database upgrade tool to upgrade your version 7.x database to version 8, but if you are happy starting again, you may find it simpler to do that, as all you need to do is replace the old version with the new one.

To get your licence key re-emailed to you, fill in the Lost Licence Key form in the Contact Us section of this web site.

You can also open up the hosted site in FP and publish that back to a different site on your local pc (e.g. mysite2) as a back-up.

When you publish your tne local site (mysite) to your host (after backing up the hosted site), use the FP publishing options to remove stuff on the "to" site that isn't on the "from" site. That way you won't have junk from the original install laying around.

Thanks ever so much for the responses - I have decided to eliminate the 7.* version and just replace it with the new version. I like the idea of publishing back to my local unit as a form of housecleaning and back-up. Never considered that.

Again thanks to both of you . . .

Yeah, one of the nice features of FP and of its replacement "Expressions" is that you can open up your hosted site as the "local" site and publish to a "remote" site on your PC or vice versa.

When publishing from the web host to your PC though, it saves time if you flag any log files as "do not publish".
