Hiya Guys - Gals

I've been using webwiz for a few years know i'm still on version 7. Just had a look at version 8 and it seems to be that little higher with more options and more colour in the basic site.

Is it possible to change my msaccess db to a mysql db? because i've been told its like a sitting time bomb on msaccess with the amount of users i have... Is this true???

also

Is there an option to set up banners at the the top of the gforum like on this forum?

I've downloaded the program that will let me update the website.... but it looks to be eather for ms access or mysql.

Cheers

Jack

First you will need to download the Access version 7 to version 8 upgrade tool and follow the instructions in that file to upgrade your database to version 8.

Once this is done you can consider attempting to move to a new database type, but it can be tricky but it seems that the Access to mySQL tools available from mySQL are easier to use then trying to migrate from Access to SQL Server.

Using Access is always dangerous as access is simply a flat office file and not a database management system so easily becomes corrupted if you have more than a handful of users.

If you decide to go down the mySQL conversion root before making the database migration to mySQL you will need to delete the field tblPermissions -> Read in the database as this is a version 7 field that is not compatible with mySQL so was removed in version 8.

Sorry no, your forum needs to be completely disabled while the upgrade takes place and then after the database is upgraded it must ONLY be used with version 8
