    Posted: 25 September 2006 at 8:22pm

I'm new to Web Wiz Forums.  I'm a professional web developer, and understand ASP, but am new to it.  I'm having trouble reverse-engineering the code for WWF.

Right now I'm just modifying the look of the forum so I can set it up for my company's web site (don't have it online yet).  I've been able to figure out most of it, but can't seem to change the forum logo in the upper left corner (above the time).  I've searched this forum for a thread about this, but didn't see one.

If this question has already been answered, please direct me to the thread where I can find the answer.  If not, could someone PLEASE tell me which file calls the image, so I can replace the default WWF logo with my company's logo?

If I can just find the file that controls the logo, I can take it from there.  So far, I don't know which file that is.  I'd greatly appreciate any help on this.  Thanks! Big%20smile

P.S. Though I'm changing the logo & the look for professional purposes, I've purchased the license & provide full credit to WWF.

The logo in the top left is changed to your own sites logo in the online admin area under 'forum configuration' page were you type in the path to your own sites logo. (you can't get simpler than that Wink)

Thanks!  That's very easy.  Looks great now!

I have another question that is unrelated:

I'm adding WWF to a site that already has an established look.  Most of the "theme" is controlled by a Dreamweaver template, Macromedia's version of an easy CSS.  I have to get the forum up fast now since it took me longer to analyze its operation than I thought.

So basically I'm cutting the code out of the page in its entirety, applying the template to the page, and pasting the original code back inside the div that controls the content of the template.  Then I make small modifications like moving "Option Explicit" to the top of the page, deleting/closing orphan tags, etc.  Theory here is that the theme will still be displayed on the page, and the content & function of the page should remain intact, housed inside the template.

I realize it's hard to know exactly what I'm talking about without seeing the source code, but if anyone is familiar with what I'm doing, is my theory viable here, or do you foresee disaster when I put it all together & try to make it work?  Any pitfalls you can make me hip to proactively might save me time, trouble, and stress.

Thanks for any info you think is relevant!

So far, the method I described above seems to work fine.  I have, however, encountered another problem I can't seem to solve, and doesn't appear to be the result of anything I did.

The forum I've developed so far can be seen here:

The skin is a derivative of the PHPBB2 skin, which I like a lot, and is very appropriate for a professional corporate-type web site.  I'm still slowly modifying the images so as not to plageurize PHPBB, but I wanted to give them credit for their work that helped me to get the layout the way I like it.  I'll be including their name with a link in my disclaimer as I get the forum more developed.

Whether I use this skin or the original, I have no "New Post" or general "Reply" buttons.  As you can see, following the link above, that there are no buttons or links to start new threads or begin a post.

I found the "Group Permissions" page in the Admin section, but it's not so intuitive.  The grid the page says to use to edit the permissions are not links, or active in any way.  It's just text.  It appears like the label row of a table, with no data beneath the labels.  Updating the permissions using the button below the grid does nothing, since nothing has been changed.

So I'm stuck.  I can't set up the forum threads, and don't see any options to let me do that.  And, also, the larger issue at hand is that I can't edit the member group permissions, which is not good.

PLEASE HELP me figure this out.  I'm so close to getting this thing up & running!  Thank you in advance!  Big%20smile

Hehe, me again!  Big%20smile

I figure it out!  Have to create the categories first.  Then make forums, then sub-forums.  Then can give groups specific permissions to post or not post.

Really simple once you figure out how it works!  I read someone else on this forum requesting admin docs to help explain the admin section.  I'd love to see these, too, though by the time something like that rolls around, I figure I'll have already figured it out.  Wink

Other than that, WWF is GREAT!  A forum is a great way to build a community & attract traffic to a web site.  And all for less than $100 US.  Fantastic product for a very good price!  My hat's off to you!  Clap

I think I got stuff figured out for now.  Thanks for all the help!
