Topic: database error Posted: 21 June 2006 at 8:42pm |

I have recently had my site pulled and then reinstated by my server. However when trying to access the boards Im now getting this error (database name changed for this post)
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Unrecognized database format 'e:\domains\t\theblueroom.me.uk\user\htdocs\forum\admin\body\heart.mdb'.
/forum/common.asp, line 261
I have checked the common asp file and the database path remains the same as it was, please can someone help me?

The error suggests that your Access database has become corrupted.
You need to download the Access database, open it in MS Access, and select 'Compact and Repair' database from the tools menu, before reuploading it back to the web server.
However, you should consider using the mySQL or SQL Server version to prevent this problem from happening again, as MS Access is not capable of handling large forums.

In version 7 the admin part has a different database connection to the main forum.
Version 8 doesn't have this which you should upgrade to ASAP

The problem here is that you may have tried running version 8 before the upgrade was complete, so the application varables have been set with null values.
Log into the admin area and go to the 'forum configuration' page, make sure all the settings are correct and re-submit the page, this will reset the application variables for your forum.
