I hope I am not just missing something in the help documentation.  Is it possible to set up moderated registration?
 
Some friends and I are setting up a closed forum.  Do I have to suspend registration and add new members manually?

From the email settings page in the online admin area you can select to have the forum admin approve all new registrations.
