Topic: Not Logging In Posted: 03 May 2003 at 6:03pm |
For some reason, I can't - well, people can't - log into the discussion forum. It takes their username and password then forwards them to the main board, but they aren't logged in. It gives no error about incorrect username/password combo. It acts like you are logged in, but you don't have access to anything. I tried reinstalling the forums but that didn't make a difference. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I did check permissions on database just in case - but they were all correct.

I'm having the same problem. Cookies are enabled and permissions are ok. When I try to log in the page refreshes as it is supposed to - but it does not log you in - and no error is returned!

You say that it "..does not log you in". Are you sure about this?
Take a look at the top Nav Bar and check whether it states "Logout [Your Username]" or simply "Login". If your Username appears then it HAS logged you in but your cookie settings are preventing further access. Enabling cookies is the first step but you also need to ensure that that the settings are Medium or less for Forums hosted in the SAME Domain as the rest of the site reducing this to Low or less where Forum hosting is elswhere.
The other point to check on v7 is User Posting and Browsing permissions in the Admin section.

Hope this helps

Username is not shown - it really does not log you in!
Internet security settings r ok - can't really check config in forum, as I can't log in - not even as admin! I've used this forum many time in the last week - the problem just started this morning.
anyone?

If it has just started happening then you probally have a corrupted cookie index file in IE, happens quite often.
The only cure is to first delete all internet files then delete all coookies from IE, this then resets the cookie index.
