Please bear with me I am sure my problem is very basic but would appreciate some help.  I am building my first web pages in Microsoft Frontpage and I am having 2 problems

1. I can not get my links to work when i preview my pages in Explorer (all my files are in the same folder )

2. I am presently doing a computer course and when I send my pages in a zip folder all the images are not being displayed(red x appears in the box.) Guess what ? My tutor does not know either.

Thank You

1. Are your sites on your local pc or a remote web server. Give an example of a link.

2. Don't use zipped folders.

MS is dropping front Page. Look at it's replacement -  MS Expressions Web Designer (free beta), and avoid FP. If you can't avoid it, don't use any FP extensions in your web site or "shared borders" - to avoid a lot of grief later on.

Hello dpyers

<p align="center"><a href="page2.htm">page2.htm</a></p>

Thank you so much for replying to my query.

Above is the html code to link to my 2nd page, which works fine in Frontpage but does not work in Explorer. I have a Packard and Bell Pentium 4 laptop and work from home. (Page 2 is in the same folder as my Home page.)

My tutor requested that I do my web pages, first of all in Notepad then Frontpage also that i send my work in zip folders. If you could explain why? I will pass it on to her.

I had a look at Expressions when i logged on to this site I will download it but it looked quite daunting, also I was rather nervous about it only being a trial version.

Once again thanks for your assistance.

Mysticgran.

The link code looks ok. When you're in FP, can you view page2.htm in a browser without going through the link? (e.g. right-click on page2 ans select preview in browser). IE's had a few security releases lately that block some types of active content from displaying, but if you can open it in a browser from fp, ir should work from a link.

I thought you might have had the images in a compressed directory on the web server, but that's not the case.
When you pack a directory up in a zip, or unpack it, you need to make sure you check the options to use the existing directory structure or else the zip program will put everything into one directory. If you specified an image as /images/myimage.jpg in the html, it wouldn't be found in that situation because the zip would have extracted it as /myimage.jpg.

Doing the work in notepad and than importing it into FP is ok. Your instructor's trying to avoid the FP garbage. FP2003 is a good web admin tool. It just produces terrible code on wsywig view.

Check your PM
