I like sample logos on some websites like the one dypers mentioned, but the problem is you don't know if that logo will be re-used by someone else. Trademarking a logo has been a big hassle and you can't afford hiring a lawyer when you're yet to form a business.

For a website I have, I purchased a sample logo and then modified it using some fancy font and placed my website's name on it.

On most of the logo sites, you can either purchase the logo for exclusive use or for shared use. Some sites will also limit the number of sales of a particular logo to 10 or 15. If it's had no sales for shared use, you can get it for the exclusive use price.

On the logo's I've gotten for shared use though, I usually change them as Info_Tech suggests.

I gotta get a new handle though as everyone insists on misspelling mine do it gets pronounced like diapers. Embarrassed

I am about to post a contest on SitePoint for a logo and website layout. I've been watching the contests and some really good stuff comes out of there.
 
 
If anyone here wants to submit a logo or design... feel free. I probably will post the contest tonight or tomorrow. The total prize will be $500 usd.
