Hello,

I'm running two forums on my personal webserver. On the first forum I have 2300 messages, and the MDB file takes 3mb. Now, on the 2nd forum (different location on the server) I have 10,000 messages, and the MDB file takes 100mb. How does it make sence?

And how can I removed messages any forum, (the 1st or the 2nd) and still the message-counter will show and same number of messages before I deleted?

I'm using the Access version.

Thanks,

Camisa

Well it makes sence if the second forum (obviously) is more busy, Access does not automatically free up space on deletes and moves. So the file grows. You will see that once you run a compact of the database it will look better. The message counter can be resynced in the admin menu...

You can either download the db and open it in access or there are scripts (check aspin.com) to run a compact via asp.

Once you compact and repair the database, if you are using version 7 then I would recommened that you turn off the active users feature to keep the file size from growing so quickly.

Well, I'm sorry, but i'm kinda new at this DB/Access/SQL issues.

I tried downloading some on-line scripts, but all of them didn't work.
When i'm downloading the DB to my computer, and I open it by Access, what should I do than? I don't believe that deleting some users/messages will make the DB file less big.

Borg, i'm using the Access version 6.30.

Download the database, open in access, and select 'compact and repair database' from the tools menu.

To download and to upload 100mb?

The problem DB is the big one. I have no problem with the 1st forum (3000 message, 3mb).
