I have registered a domain name, and have set everything up as has been recommended.  I am able to view my site inside my LAN using my registered domain name, but not through the WAN. I have been using proxy servers to test much of this, as well as from work, and other family members computers in there homes.  I am using www.dyndns.org to help with the Dynamic IP address in my router.  I have tried both apache, and IIS web servers.  Both have the same result.  I am also running Bullet Proof FTP server, and it is working great.  I am able to use the FTP through the internet from anywhere.  I am running the servers on a Windows XP machine.  I have my router set up to allow the site to run on port 80, and the fully functional FTP on port 21.  Please help me.. I am so confused.. I have tried everything except a different router.  My ISP is wowway.

make sure port 80 is pointing to the server
 
ie on the router make sure the router sends port 80 requests to the pc on your lan
 
so say my server was on lan IP 10.123.234.234
 
on the router i would set port 80 requests to be forwarded to IP 10.123.234.234 and port 80 or set port
 
also make sure that the server (10.123.234.234) has the port open within IIS
 
so when the website is added to IIS you need to make sure the port is specified that will be run on (80 by default)

I also have a related question...so thought of taking advantage of this good topic...

What if I have 5 static IP's? My router supports only 1 static IP. I know that there are routers out there that allow you to put multiple static IP on them (ie: D-Link DFL-300), but they're a litle bit expensive. Is it not okay to run the LAN cable from teh cable modem directly to the server without a router in between? Or is it a risky thing to be without a router?

you could go direct into the server , the advantage with routers are they can block and allow certain access via port blocks etc.

Speaking of blocking ports, isn't a software-Firewall good enough to replace the router?

i supose a software would be ok, but as usual they sometimes have bugs within them etc
 
of course hardware to have issues.
 
i would go for hardware/router style
 
if you are wanting to host a few websites
 
(is this for clients to) then maybe worth getting a multi ip router/inlet
 
as it would be better over all, you say about cost etc but a bit of investment and you are good to go, take a look on the net, sure there are some half decent and priced ones.
