I'm sure there's a good reason but...
 
...in forum_posts.asp, what is the possible reason for the RSS icon (top right on menu) appearing on most posts but not being there on some?

There is a time delay built in, if the topic hasn't been posted in for x amount of time (I think it's 7 days) then the RSS Option is no-longer available. This is to reduce load on the server.
