i would like to know the basic difference between asp and asp.net.
 
i use asp 3.0 and i would like to switch to .net but i can't understand what is asp.net, some ppl say its visual basic, some say its c# i can't understand what is the difference and where to start and what do i have to know before i start working on .net
 
i have installed visual studio 2008 today so please guide me what do i do now.  Thank you.

asp.net is similar to asp in that you can use different languages to create web pages and perform other functions. Most people use vbScript on ASP servers, but you could use jscript, perl or viritually any other language.
ASP.NET is the next version and allows compliation (rather than interperated languages). I'm no expert in .NET, but i'm gogin to point your toward w3schools again: http://www.w3schools.com/ASPNET/default.asp

I'm an .NET nut.. Love coding in it!  I went from ASP to ASP.NET a few years ago, it was a bit of a tough learning curve but definitely worth it.

You want to check out the ASP.NET website, it has LOADS of video tutorials

Also keep an eye on this site, has loads of cool posts about .NET although its not really geared towards beginners

They have lots of really cool video tutorials that really helped me visually.

Yep that is a great selection of videos...  They do some of the video tutorials on ASP.NET, and for 50 bucks to get the full selection is great value
