I have forum 9.06 and am looking to upgrade to the latest edition, do I need to up load all the files in place of the current files?  And do the images in posts get saved in the database so they reappear when I have updated?

Haz,
You have to determine what version of Forums you are using Access, SQL, Mysql?  The first thing I would suggest is that you back up all your forums before you proceed to do anything else..  you need to Download the latest version of the forums and copy the files over to your hosting provider..  Here is the Link to the latest forums you can Download

As for the Images you have uploaded, Back up that information and after you install the new version of the WWF.. Copy the Images that you have backed up back into the new images upload files on the new version and they should still be in your forums..

Thank you, I have upgrade but now have a problem, on the default page everything looks fine, you can see all members & categories but I click on either the categories or the members list at the top of the page, all I get is page can't be displayed
Any ideas?

This sounds like you may have missed uploading one, or some of the files. Usually if you are receiving no other error apart from "this page cannot be displayed" it normally indicates that the file that you are clicking to does not yet exist on your server
