Can't you just change their password then log in under their user name?

I think this is called "Invasion of Privacy" and this is why Bruce has made this point so many times about Private Messages and the system it uses. A forum membership need to feel comfortable that their personal messages remain confidential (and I appreciate that your reply was aimed at the question asked) so I'm not having a go at you

It would be better if forum owners who perhaps have issues with members using the Private Messaging system think about perhaps not invoking it within the admin panel. If there were real problems on a forum, then it would be best to actually have some sort of disclaimer within the registration page perhaps saying something like -
"Whilst Private Messages are not monitored, the forum owners reserve the rights to investigate the messaging system if there is evidence of abuse by members using Private Messages"

But that would be up to the forum owners to decide this

If your members think you are reading their private messages then they may not be to happy.

About a year ago on a popular pro audio forum with over 100 active users at all times a rummer went round that the moderators and admins were reading Private Messages, even though they were told that it was not possible with the software many of them left the forum and started a break away forum of their own.

This would not be a good idea.. Consider that WWF Can be accessed by anyone.. That anyone that is on your forums can come in here and look at anything that they would like to.. And what happens if they find this post out?  I would not think that would be best..

And they would be instantly alerted to that when they next attempted to log in!
Their password would be different, they'd get an error and not be able to login and be tipped off that something was amiss.
Best to not even think it - besides, they ALWAYS have email to use to be naughty!
