Hello,

I've been working with our new web hosting company for the couple of weeks.  We finally got the new version of web wiz up and running, but the upgrade tool brought access to v9.5 capability.  It did not convert to mysql.

I dont think our provider has SQL Server, although he did move the forum to a separate Windows server to get it to run in the first place.  So maybe it is there.

From what I read in these forums, it is near impossible to convert access to mysql without a lot of custom hacking.  Is this correct?

Thanks,
Eric

mySQL is a very different beast compared to Access and SQL Server in terms of how you build the database schema as mySQL uses very different data types and is also not a relational database, which makes converting a Web Wiz Forums database to mySQL very difficult and you often end up with an unstable forum, which is why this type of move is not supported.

Upsizing the Access database to SQL Server on the other hand is much easier to do and you can use the upsize wizard in Access 2003 or 2007 to do this. However, if you are unfamiliar with databases you may still struggle as the SQL Server 2000 or 2005 database (SQL Server 2008 is not supported by the Access upsize wizard at the present time) has to be running on the local network for you to be able to do this database upsizing.

Another alternative is that you use on our our Web Wiz Forums hosted solutions starting from just 4.99 per month and includes the Premium Brand Free Edition hosted on our own servers specially setup for Web Wiz Forums hosting. We can also take your present forum and it's database and upgrade it to the latest Web Wiz Forums version using SQL Server 2008. For more information please see the link below:-
