    Posted: 25 February 2010 at 4:00am
Hi,

When the user visits the default.asp page in the RTE folder default content is shown in the RTE text box. This is hard coded into the default.asp document.

Is it possible to get the RTE to display a real RTE file on start up.

I have tried setting the strOpenFileFolderPath variable in RTE_setup.asp with the value of the path and file name but the RTE text box does not show the file.

regards

The default.asp page that comes with the RTE is only there are an example, it's not meant to be used.

What you are supposed to do is delete the default.asp file, then you apply the RTE to an existing textarea that you have in a webpage. The textarea including it's contents is then changes to an RTE HTMLarea.

If you read the documentation it gives you instructions on how to apply the RTE to your textarea:-

Hi,

I dont think I explained myself very well. Apologies. I have set up a new page default.asp in the RTE folder. This contains the RTE form as per the instructions.

I have set up 3 template RTE files and the idea is that the user will use the templates to produce their own RTE files (1 for each of the templates).
When the user first enters the default page I want the first template to be already displayed in the RTE, prompting the user to edit and save their own version of the file, before going onto edit the remaining two files.

I have tried to use the strOpenFileFolderPath variable in the rte_setup.asp file to point to the specific default file. Should I be able to specify the path and file name using this variable to get the RTE to display it on startup?

I can supply a URL to the page which may make it a little easier to explain.

regards

The first thing is that the strOpenFileFolderPathvariable stores the folder path to where files can be opened from when you click the 'Open File' icon. It is not used to auto-load files and should contain the folder path not a file path.

To have a file automatically load into the RTE then it must be in your textarea already.

What you would need to do is edit your default.asp file and place whatever you want to initially  appear in the RTE into your textarea. Then when the textarea is converted into an RTE area the contents will be editable as RTE HTML.
