Hey guys,
Recently, my computer got a virus and I backed up my outlook.pst file and formatted. I have done this several times in the past, with no problems.
However, this time... When I'm attempting to read from the out outlook file, it gives me an "Access Denied". The system says "I maybe the wrong user, or the file is in use?? WTF?
This outlook has 4 years worth of info it! guys, please help, or direct me where I could seek help.

1st Question:
Did you back this file up on XP?, and now you have re-installed XP, or is this a 2000 machine?
2nd Question:
What version of office are you using, and what service pack, when you backed the file up?
Please post this info to this thread, wherever it gets moved, probally general disscussions.

well may be u just copie the outlook file orm one NTFS partition to another.. this way the file permission r still intact with it.. just check out the permission.. remove any unknown users and configure ur persimisson...

No... its the same environment as before. Windows 2000. I'm not sure about the file system, if it was FAT32 or NTFS. But does it matter? I tried on different machines to see if it would load or not... like my laptop which is XP Pro.
It was Office XP Professional. - No service packs installed I believe.

In general, don't fix it if it ain't broken. Stay away form XP products. Office 2k is stable, secure (lol), and generally pretty good, and even fixable. XP, the OS, uses a different NTFS system for added security, and to shaft end users into support fees, on top of being a debugging farm.
Office XP, has some great features, but is unstable as heck, just like it's couterpart, the OS from hell. Someday, these products will be all better, but it won't be till Q1-Q3 of next year. So, basically, scour the knowledgebase. Try also, to pull the data out of the file, in either excel, or access using ODBC, and or, "open with".
These are my opinions, take em or leave em, let me know if you have more questions.

office 2000 sucks , buggy and slow .. windows 2000 pro is slow and buggy
office XP and windows XP r faster and stable and much less bugs :)
