Topic: Active topics - whats wrong here? Posted: 04 June 2003 at 2:58am |
What's wrong with this picture?
Hint: Compare the "show active topics since" selection (on 3rd June) with the FOUR topics which have not been active since that date and time but which are still shown. If I set it to "last 15 minutes" it doesn't show the "Preston!" or "* Users online" topics but does show the others (it's currently 09:55 BST Wednesday June 4th)
It's only recently started doing this (no config changes recently, at all); the server was restarted on the night of Tuesday 2nd June (suspected lightning strike!), could it be the server has forgotten what time of day it is?
The "The time is now..." line on the forum default page is showing correctly.
Any thoughts / suggestions gratefully received!
Ta

Could be that you need to change the LCID number for the active topics page to that of the servers LCID number.

OK, thanks. I know I've seen that setting somewhere but now I can't find it. Can you remind me please?
Incidentally, by 10:30 (June 4th) the 10:22 (June 2nd) topic was no longer being shown using the 22:44 (June 3rd) criteria.

Open the active_users.asp file and just under the copyright you should find a commented out LCID number, change the number to that of the server (a chart can be found in the ASP -> FAQ section of this site).

Found it in common.asp, set it to 2057 (english UK), no change.
Host has tried changing various bits too, removed a couple of bits he'd put on recently, still no change.
Tried deleting all cookies and using different browsers, no change.
Don't get the same problem on this forum (ie, it's probably not my machine), so now we're a bit stuck again!
Not a major thing, just a little irritating and I'd like to fix it before anyone else notices! Could it be a corrupted file? If so, which one?

You need to change it in the active_topics.asp file, not the common.asp file in this instance.

Ah, sorry, confused me with the "active_users" typo earlier.
However, when this doesn't seem to have any effect either, any more thoughts?
Now very confused...
If active_users didn't change from 7.0 to 7.01, I'd consider downloading it again and replacing the file entirely; however I have just replaced the live file with the local copy which hadn't previously changed for a (long) while. So I doubt that the file is otherwise corrupted. Hmm.

OK, we have now sorted this.
It arose after installing traffic monitoring, which (at the time) was the only thing that set LCID to anything at all (2057, English UK)
The confusing bit was the comment in the active_topics.asp file:
'If you are having problem showing posts witin the last few hours then it could be that you have changed the LCID from what
'the server is set to, if this is the case then you must forced it back to the servers own locale for the filter to run
'Session.LCID = 1033
The comment suggests (to me at least!) that LCID should be forced back at this point to 2057 (that being the locale of the server).
So we did this, and it didn't improve anything (because it wasn't changing anything, as the monitoring had already set it to 2057).
Setting the above to 1033 (US, not UK) allows active_topics to work correctly, even though this is NOT the locale of the server, which is here in good old Blighty, set up to be as English as can be.
Anyway, now sorted, for reference.
