    Posted: 26 March 2014 at 8:34am
I would like to upgrade the forum from unknown version (unbranded) to version 10. First I need the information how to check the forum version.

The forum currently runs on Windows server 2003+SQL server 2005.

I configured my new test server with Server 2008 R2+SQL 2008 R2 and restored the forum database from the old server. I used the demo files and uploaded to the IIS folder. I am able to successfully pas the "database test", but when I click Next I am redirected to the first page (select installation type).

We are interested in buying the premium licence, but first I would like to test the upgrade on a test server.

In the Admin Area, at the bottom of the links on the left is "check for updates". This should tell you what version you are on.

Alternatively look for the file "includes/version_inc.asp" which should contain the version number.

Thank you for the information. Check for updates link was redirected to the webwiz homepage. I managed to find the version from the version_inc.asp file. I have 8.05a version.

What about the installation loop?

The loop will occur if you have not set write permissions on the Web Wiz Forums 'database' directory in order that the setup wizard can write the database settings to the files within the folder.

Check you have read, write and modify permissions set for the IUSR account on Web Wiz Forums 'database' folder.

I modified the permissions for the IUSR account to "Full control", restarted the server and I am still getting the loop.

Check what user the application pool your forums website is running under in IIS.

If it is not the IUSR account you would need to grant read, write, and modify permissions to the account the application pool is running under.

This is certainly a permissions issue as the problem occurs when the database settings can not be written to the settings files in the 'database' folder.

IE for some reason can sometimes get in a loop and not display an error message, but if using another browser an error message regrading not being able to write to the folder is displayed.

Thank you for your help. I managed to finish the upgrade via Chrome browser. Everything works OK so far.

We will purchase the premium license shorty. Do you support Slovenian language?

You can set the character encoding for your language from the admin area.

If you wish to translate the text you would need to translate the files in the language_files folder using a text editor.

If you look through the Web Wiz Forums Language Files Forum at the link below you may find that someone has already translated the files
