Topic: New EU data protection directive. Posted: 27 March 2018 at 11:05am |
Though I'm aware of this forthcoming event in May, I haven't read the details too much. Will WebWiz forums comply with this, or is there something forum administrators will have to do? Obviously email addresses are stored as are IP addresses, both of which come into the new legislation.

A new version of Web Wiz Forums is presently being developed with some new features that are more GDPR friendly.
Any personal data comes under GDPR and you need to have consent from users. One way for websites that the ICO recommend is called 'Just in time notices' to get consent.
This can be achieved by allowing admins to add a small notice to the registration/profile form to let people know what you do with the data they enter.
The delete forum members has been updated to also allow admins to delete the posts of members that are being deleted or keep the posts but anomalies them by removing the username of the poster and IP address.
You need to be able to show people what data you store on them so are also looking at allowing members to download a copy of their forum data. At present not sure if this will be just their forum profile and IP addresses or if also want to include all their posts, which may make it rather bulky.

Version 12 of Web Wiz Forums has been released, which has a number of new features to help forum owners to comply with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Bruce I'm getting users of chrome and some mobiles saying after the upgrade that they get no background colours on the forum just white. I just tried it and go the same. IE is fine. Any ideas ?

I believe you placed a support ticket regrading this issue last week and the issue was resolved after re-installing Web Wiz Forums for you.

Thanks for updating us. Just checking the admin features and in General settings I note that under "show latest posts" neither option is checked. The line below "connection to country API" is on, but if I select on for the show latest posts, then the line "country API" goes blank. They seem to be interconnected.

Thanks for posting, is this related to the EU Data Protection or are you posting an unrelated issue?
