I've noticed a lot in the code of --borg--'s stuff that he uses "<br />" and a few other ending tags that have a "/>" at the end.

Could someone please explain the reasoning and use of this? TIA!

That is the to make it compliant in xhtml language which says that every tag needs to be closed. So when tags to enclose something else you can close them by putting a slash within like <br /> or <p />
