    Posted: 30 August 2003 at 5:38pm

I've searched the forums and while I found some stuff on this error nothing was quite applicable.  I added a field to the DB where users could write a 1000 char or less essay about themselves as part of their profile.  This is a 'memo' in the database and is modeled after the signature field in edit profile.  Everything was working great!  Then I tested the field length before I added the code to the check form fuction in register.asp

I got the following error:

Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.

The thing is now I can't update the profile at all!  I've uploaded my backup copy of the database, backup register.asp, and compacted the db....I'm stumped!!!  Why is this irreversible?!?!  Do I need to contact my ISP?  Did I inadvertenly send some type of overflow that is not correctable from my end? BTW the rest of the DB works still...I am able to post / reply so and I'm 99% sure I'm not running out of room.

HELP!

What was the error number?

(eg. 2147217887)

Anway, this error can occur if the user has left an input box unfilled for example.

I think the error was 8048, but anyway I fixed it by commenting out the line where the error occured....it causes me to have to plug info in as admin that would be pulled from the db otherwise but thats OK...thing is I don't see how the two are related...but its working now so I'll investigate it more later
