 Topic: Corrupt Access Database?

Hi Folks,
I'm having a problem with a search directory script I've been using at my site www.civilwarsearch.com. It suddenly seemed to stop working correctly though I don't know of any changes I made that should cause this problem. In any case I wrote my host and asked them if they had changed anything and they mentioned that perhaps my Access database had become corrupt. Could someone explain to me how my db would become corrupt? How would I know? And is there anything I can do to fix it?

Access is prone to becoming corrupt, download you mdb and open it, it should tell you if something is wrong, you might want to do a compact and repair in Access...

Thanks for the advice...The one problem is that I don't own Access. :-/ I use aspAccessEditor or Microsoft's ASP.NET Web Matrix - but as far as I know neither has the ability to repair databases. Is there any online compact/repair utilities, etc.?

There are a ton, I think even this forum has one built in. But you can also dl a script from i.e. aspin.com

I actually visited hotscripts.com and found a free database compactor. It worked well and cut my database down to around half its original size...but the script is still not working. :-/
Instead of changing a Category ID to the correct number it is changing it to a negative number for some unknown reason.

If any of your integers are exceeding 32,768, you may have to change them to a different Type capable of holding a larger number.

Thanks everyone...I've fixed the error. Compacting the database took it down to around half its size - which was nice...But it ended up that my problem was in the fact that I put a - to separate different terms in the text and the script was reading the - as a numerical value, thus throwing negative numbers.
