Topic: Block Outside Image Links? Posted: 21 November 2003 at 5:33am |
|
I'm looking for a way to block people from sourcing images on my site for use on their own. For example, sometimes people will use the avatar images on my site for various other forums out there. Also, they'll use images for sigs, news posts, etc, all the while sourcing them from my site.
Is there a way to stop this using the global.asa file or perhaps some other asp code?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

here's one solution http://evolvedcode.net/content/code_antihotlink/
but you can find a bunch if you do a search on Google for "hotlinking".

i am using "leech blocker" (can download from this page) and it's small, doesn't affect IIS from what i see (memory-wise), and works! (always important, lol)
note that this kind of solution only works if you have server access

Sometimes an email to the webmaster of whatever forum the pics are showing up on will resolve the problem.

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple... not when there are hundreds and hundreds of offenders. It wouldn't be a problem if there were only 20-30 individuals doing it, but when I get an extra 300MB of bandwidth a day in offsite image linking, then it's a problem.

Yup, I see your point. The AB site is gonna be a lot more enticing to the leeches than most other sites.
