When using the PM, after selecting the user and filling out the information, I hit the Post Message button and immediately get a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error.

Error reads:

  • Error Type:
    CDO.Message.1 (0x80040213)
The transport failed to connect to the server.
    /forum/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 137

The message still gets delivered though.  Any ideas why I am getting this error and how to fix it?  Thanks.

    CDO.Message.1
The transport failed to connect to the server.

its not a pm error, its a mail error.. when you send a pm, sometimes you also send an email to the pm receipient so that he get a notification that he has got a pm..

    check you mail settings..

I agree with Anthrax. Its a problem with ur mail settings
My guess, when you hit the back button and go to outbox, u will see msg is delivered.
so check ur mail settings. probably u have enabled that registrations should be confirmed by mail and ur mail server setting is incorrect
Moreover, if ur mail setting is incorrect, the same problem u will face whilee posting threads and replies too.

    Hope this helps.....

Yeah, I don't have email registrations enabled and don't seem to have any problems for people posting threads, but I could be overlooking something.  My forums don't get that much traffic.

I had the settings set to CDOSYS and entered an outgoing SMTP server.  I changed the settings to CDONTS and cleared the SMTP entry.  This fixed the ASP error, but now I don't get any email responses.

Ok, I looked in the c:\inetpub\mailroot\Queue and there are messages that are arriving there from posts, but they are not sending out.

I am using the SMTP server that comes with Win2K server.  Any suggestions here?  I have restarted the SMTP server and the messages still sit in there.

Check that your firewall and/or your ISP are not blocking port 25

Try stopping and restarting the SMTP service.
