ok this v7 forum is obviously amazing. and i bet the SQL version is rocking too. i been looking for an asp forum with upload capabilities forever. i have found this one. i wish i could use the SQL version but i cant cuz my host doesnt support it.

now i have read of some other forum types with SQL databases that actually upload the files in the database and not in another directory. obviously the database size becomes huge faster but i wouldnt even mind. my question is if it is possible to do that with access and not just SQL databases? i know that the current forums support those upload components that have to be installed server side and my hosting people wont install even the free ones for me (assholes). they only got ASP simple upload which v7 doesnt support unfortunately.

anyways my question is and remains: is it possible to do uploads straight into the access database? if it is possible would this ever happen with a web wiz forum in the future?

Patience is a virtue i guess so i can wait if this is in the pipeline.

Uploading straight into a MS Access database is possible with Persits AspUpload (dunno about any other components, I'm relatively new to this...)

Whether the V7 forum will support this is up to -borg-, but I'm sure one of the helpful people that hang about on this forum would knock up a mod that will support database uploading eventually...

And it's not just database size that suffers, I think it slows it all down a tad too...

If you where to allow people to upload to an access database it would become very big and very slow. I strongly suggestion you dont allow people to upload to an access database.

yes i understand it would slow things down and everything but mine is a small traffic board (but very important to me :D) PLUS i wouldnt let it grow too big. i would always archive the files. i just need something that would handle uploads for like 5 days... then i would reset it.

No, files and images won't be uploaded to the database.

No-one should ever use that method, you should always store the files in a directory then just place the path in the database. This is a much faster and cleaner way of doing things.

Getting files and images from the database, would not only slow down the forum, but the performance loss in having to take an image or file from a database convert it back to it's original form is a hell of allot.

For future releases can you do something so that the files get deleted once the post is deleted?

If you download the new version of the Forum you will see there is an uploads folder where uploaded files and images are stored.
