    Posted: 28 January 2004 at 7:22am

Hello,

I have a very strange problem on my forum, it looks like some threads have merged. Every time I move one of them it takes all the caracteristics of the thread above (nimber of replies, last post ... ). The thread looks ok on the forum page except that you will have for ex : 24 replies and 0 views. Then if you try to open it, it says "There are no posts in the database relating to this topic" and "Sorry, you do not have permission to reply to posts in this forum".

Here is a page where you can see the problem (watch for the threads with 0 views) :

Any help would be welcome

If you are moving a whole topic then there is no problem.

If you are trying to move one post to another topic, if this is the only post left in that topic with the Access version you need to then manually delete the topic to prevent this error.

The reason for this is that there is code to look at the topic the post is moved from and delete the old topic if there are no posts left in it.

This works perfectly well in the SQL serer version, but on some server with the access version the access database is slow to update, so when the test is run on the database to see if there are posts left in the topic it returns that there is.

There is no work around for this just a problem with access sometimes being very slow at updating on some servers. You will just have to manually delete those topics.

Well, my point was not trying to move the topic, I tried to move the corrupted topic to see if it would change anything. It didn't but I noticed that the topic was taking all the caracteristics (except the title and the 0 views) of the thread above.

What I am trying to do is to repare those topics with 0 views that the members can't read (and post) anymore though there had been already many posts. I think there might have been a problem with some posts that were corrupted while posting (ponctual problem with the server ?). My guess is that I will have to download the DB and try to look into it.
I just wanted to know if this problem was known and if there was a simple way to repare (except deleting the topic, of course )

Have you seen the page ?

Sounds like your access database has become corrupted, this is quite common with access as it is a desktop database package not really designed for a web application backend.

If you are using version 7.5 or above of the forum there is a compact and repair feature in the admin area that may help sortout the problem.

If you can running the SQL server version would be much better as it is a far superior database management system.
