ok i am running the access version and one day i downloaded the DB unto my computer to edit a few things manually in the tblAuthor but i never touched tblActiveUsers.

first i got this error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The search key was not found in any record.

/forum/includes/active_users_inc.asp, line 130

and i commented out line 130.. rookie solution obviously.

and anyway now the active users table is not cleared when users leave the board.  basically now the number of users keeps increasing which is fake and they have sessions as long as 4000 minutes... anyway got any idea how to fix this? used to work fine before...

Sounds to me like the active users table was corrupted. I think the corruption accrued when you uploaded the db.

You should turn off the forum delete all the rows in the active users table and upload it. Turn the forum back on.

Hint: Makes you wonder why Borg warns us about using that feature with access database.

Edit: You can turn off the feature itself, and you don't have to turn the whole forum off then turn it back on when you have fixed the database.

hmm yes i deleted the entries manually... but as long as i dont comment that line out on active_users_inc.asp i will keep getting the error and nothing will load. when i DO comment it out the old entries are still not deleted and a new mess is created... lol.

Compacting and repairing the database in Access also fixes this problem, but keep the active users function turned off in the admin area if you don't want it to happen again as access can't cope with the updates required for an active users list, unless you have a very quite board.
