Am I correct in understanding that version 7 beta is the only version that supports using attachments in posts? AND is that only wiht SQL server or will Access do it?

Version 7 does support file, image, and avatar uploading, with both the Access and SQL server versions.

Any word on the stability of Version 7?
I have a small group that will be using this and I don't want to have to do a lot of maintenance...I'm lazy.

Version 7 is still in beta and beta 4 was only released an hour ago, so there is no garantee it is stable or bug free.

were is what I get when I want to upload something to my forum:

This means that the upload component you are trying to use is not installed on the server. Contact your web hosting company and find out what upload component they have installed, then setup the upload configuration form the admin area to use that component.
