Does anyone here use Dell TrueMobile 2300 to have wireless Internet connection on a laptop? I am really frustrated because I have followed Dell's instructions on how to set up a wireless Internet connection. I connected all of the cables to the Router, the cable modem, and the computer correctly. But I keep on getting an error message saying that my computer cannot detect the router. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I tried calling Dell Technical Support today, but no one helped me. I stayed on the phone for an hour. I ended up not getting help.

I'd try rebooting the router with everything connected. Leave it sit for at least two minutes after you power it off before powering it on again.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

I tried rebooting it, but it would still not work. I don't know what I should do. I am really frustrated with this router.

You may want to talk to your ISP. Many require a PPoE service to be running on a PC-Modem connection. When you put a router in the middle, some routers have PPoE already set up and some don't. Usually if they have it set up, you need to disable it on the pc and replace it with something like straight Ethernet over TCP/IP from the pc to router, then ppoe from the router to the modem..

It sounds like double talk, but your ISP should be able to guide you if you can get past their first line of support idiots.

I'd go to www.broadbandreports.com and look up the isp's forum and post the problem there. More than likely, someone else has had specific experience with using dell equipment with that particular isp.

I found out that I must have a driver problem. There is not even a Wireless Connection Icon on my computer. I don't seem to be able to find the information on Microsoft's web site. Does anyone know where I can obtain the driver from? Please give me the exact web site address. Thank You!  Please look at the following information:

Driver Installation Issues

If you do not see the Wireless Connection icon in the Network Connections folder, or if you cannot view the properties for the Wireless Connection icon, there may be a problem with the driver installation. To troubleshoot this issue, verify that you have the latest available driver from the device manufacturer, and then follow these steps to start determining the source of the issue:

  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  2. In Computer Management, click Device Manager in the console tree.
  3. In the details pane, double-click Other Devices and look for the wireless network adapter. If you locate the adapter in the Other Devices folder, this indicates that a driver has not been installed. To resolve this issue, obtain and install a driver from the device manufacturer.
  4. If you do not locate the adapter in the Other Devices folder, look in the Network Adapters folder.
  5. When you locate the wireless network adapter, write down the make and the model of the adapter.
  6. In the properties for the wireless network adapter, under Device status, verify that the message "The device is working properly" is displayed.
  7. If the wireless network adapter is not in the Network Connections folder, there is either a problem with the device, or the driver may not be installed. In this case, you should see an error under Device status. You can search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for information about the error code to troubleshoot this problem. Dell should have a driver for you, at least if it's a Dell laptop and Dell router.. if not, f**k them and require your money back and buy another router

Windows XP also has some issues with wireless internet cards... it always takes me an extra 20 minutes (of troubleshooting on xp) when i set up a wireless connection

also... it might be worthwhile to check windowsupdate.com for any driver updates for your card... sometimes by chance you'll get a driver that'll work in there
