I think the most potentially destructive feature of the - otherwise superb - WWF7 system, is the possibility for any new user to bomb other users with the PM-system. This is a mess to clean up, it steals MB's of the database etc. Horror scenario: a bunch of evil guys register on your forum. Then they start PM'ing a novel of crap-characters to all users.

Solution: I think new users should only be able to PM the administrator. When and if they climb up to be members of a specific usergroup, i.e. when they have proven to be serious enough, the PM system is enabled in full.

Does anyone have any idea of how to achieve this with a slight modification of the code?

Here is a pseudo-code version of what I want to do:

If User = Level 0 then permitted PMs to Administrator only
Else PM to all users available

Yes, that could be a good choice.

I think the best solution for avoiding PM bombing is that; if a user wants to add a buddy to his buddylist, the buddy himself first must accept this user to add him/her. Like ICQ. This should be a choice for the user in the "Profile" or a choice in for Webmaster in the admin.

Good solution idea but as for a temporary work around I'd just limit the amount of PMs that a user can have in their inbox at any one time and just tell them to keep on top of deleting old read messages.
