Hi all!!!

Is there any way to migrate from ms sql to mysql safely, without losing any of my data?

I run wwf7.9 in ms sql but I want to change, since it costs more in hosting.

Thanks in advanceSmile

im not sure about a change over from one to the other , alsop you will have coding issues, you will have to rewrite parts to be MySQL friendly.

when you say MS SQL is more exssssssspensive what prices are you looking at paying.?

you can get MSSQL cheep these days

MySQL isn't supported, and why would you want to change anyways? MSSQL can be gotten for cheap, and it offers a lot more useful features.

But, try MSSQL2MYSQL - Google that. You'll get some decent utilities - about $40.00 when I bought a license.

It s about hosting. I am asked to pay 250-300Euros per year for ms sql, whereas a package supporting mysgl costs about 80Euros...

Since my forum is only for my own hobby and I don't get any money, I am not willing and cannot afford to pay 300...Confused

No, I dont demand any specific diskspace.
It is just that hosting packages come with fixed features, such as:
Package A:
150MB,PHP,ASP,FRONTPAGE,ACCESS,MYSQL,etc, costs 100Euro

...and hosting companies offer MS SQL only at their third or fourth packages, which as I mentioned earlier, costs up to 300...

Do you suggest hosting my site outside my country?

im not sure what stage greeces internet capabilities are at at present but it seems the US,UK and germany (not so much) are the best (not confirmed but thats the feeling i get from what i read).

you woint see to much loading difference from being in the US or UK. and  the users of the site wouldn't notice the differences.

the only place it does come an issue (a bit) is SEO, some search engines take IP Address as part of te criteria when submitting.

if you have a .com domain hosted in the US it will be in the US side of google.

but if you had a .com in a UK server it can be listed in the UK section of google.

BUT if you had a .co.uk domain on a US server it can still be listed in the UK search gine as its a .co.uk domain.

E:magineHosts is hosted in the US but administrated from the UK. but i dont see any differences really speed wise, of course there is always some difference but not much with how the technology has changed over the years.
